Looking for a rim with a tubeless ready inner profile, that’s also rim brake compatible? So were we! Unfortunately it just isn’t an option in the world of rims, but we finally found a solution with the Sta-Tru Wheels TR21. This double wall alloy rim has a 21mm tubeless ready inner profile with a rim brake compatible sidewall. The rim’s 22mm height and 25mm outer width makes for a really strong profile design, while the inner width works with a wide range of usable tire volumes. Last but not least, the valve hole works with both schrader and presta valves. If you have an old school MTB V-brake bike that you’re just not ready to part with, (completely understandable), or you’re just looking for a quantum upgrade for your original factory wheel set, this is it!
Since these rims are so versatile, we’re offering to build them up with a variety of hub options. Shimano Deore, SLX, and XT hubs (All Shimano hubs are loose ball, cup + cone); or sealed cartridge bearing Speed Tuned Super 6 2.0 and DT Swiss 350 hubs are all on the menu. All hub options are Shimano MTB cassette series 8/9/10/11 Spd compatible, while Sram XD 1x11 or 1x12 Spd is available as an option with the Speed Tuned and DT 350 hubs, and Shimano Road 11 Spd is available with the Speed Tuned hub option.
The Speed Tuned Super 6 2.0 hubs feature 36 points of engagement, (10 degrees) via a 4x2 pawl free hub. The drive ring and pawls are overbuilt in terms of diameter, (drive ring), height, (drive ring + pawls), and materials, (quality stainless). Their bearing placement is proper, in terms of overall design meant to promote hub function and durability.
DT Swiss 350 hubs are excellent, they are finished to incredible standards, and include DT Swiss' Star Ratchet engagement system, (same exact drive mechanism as with their DT 240's and 180's). These hubs get the job done, hold up extremely well in an assortment of conditions, and have proven reliable even in the emerging context of high torque drive trains, (29er wheel bikes with 1x12 Eagle drive trains). Essentially, DT 350's offer you the option of buying one of the best performing hubs available anywhere, for only a modest price bump. Given their huge value proposition, they are hands down a great option for any MTB rider that cares about their gear.
The Shimano hub options work too!
It's true, not everyone out there gets to fly Airwolf, the Raddest 1980's TV attack helicopter starring Jan-Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgnine, and the guy with the eye patch? Air wolf time! Look at where they park the thing! They sure don't build 'em like they used to, (warning, seatbelt and sweet mag wheels may be required. "Here we go"..."Woooo"). What were we Muse-ing about?
